Ben Affleck, the 49 years old American actor, screenwriter, film producer, and director has been in and out of rehab as he has been struggling with his sobriety for many years. In 2018, reports suggested that Jennifer Garner took her estranged husband to a rehab clinic in the Los Angeles region. As per reports, the 49-year-old actor recognized he needed assistance and Garner was in for him.
In March 2017, Ben Affleck said that he has finished alcohol addiction treatment in order to be “the best father I can be,” although his battle with addiction dates back even further. In reality, he first became aware of alcoholism as a child while seeing his father, Timothy, struggle with this condition. From his family’s history of addiction to his own 2001 rehabilitation trip, Affleck has spoken openly about his struggles with alcoholism.
In a 2012 interview conversation with Barbara Walters, Affleck reflected on his parents’ separation when he was 12 years old, saying, “To be honest with you, the marriage was so bad, and I remember feeling relief,”
“[My father] was an alcoholic… I did know that as a child. He drank a lot. My father was a — what did they call him — a real alcoholic. He, you know, drank all day, drank every day, and to his credit, he got sober ultimately,” he disclosed. “He’s been sober for several decades, which I think is pretty impressive.”
In 2008, the actor told The Daily Mail, “[He] turned his life around in a very laudable way,” “But having such serious addiction issues has a major impact — it colors who you are and becomes a part of you.”
Despite his rough background, Affleck credits his pal Matt Damon and brother Casey for assisting him in dealing with his father’s drinking and his parent’s divorce.
He repeatedly mentioned admiration for them by saying that he had a great bunch of buddies. Matt Damon, and his brother, and a core group of friends with whom he grew up and who supported him.
After 1997’s top Hollywood movie Good Will Hunting, a close partnership with Damon earned them both prominence, and soon after that, the then 24-year-old Affleck quit drinking.
He said that he simply wanted to come to a halt and began to regret some of the things he did when inebriated. He added that he was amused to be obnoxious or out of control, “then it’s like, ‘I think I hurt that person’s feelings,’ ‘I made a fool of myself,’ or ‘I didn’t want to kiss that girl,” In 1998, he told a reporter. “I have almost no inhibitions, so it’s dangerous for me.”
Affleck attended a 30-day residential rehab treatment for alcohol misuse in July 2001, after an alleged night of excessive partying amid his high-profile relations with Jennifer Lopez and Gwyneth Paltrow, driven to Promises in Malibu by his pal Charlie Sheen. His spokeswoman verified Affleck’s rehab stay when the story spilled to the media. “Ben is a self-aware and smart man who has decided that a fuller life awaits him without alcohol,” the representative said. “He is committed to traveling to a healthier road with the support of his family friends and fans.”
In 2012, Affleck told The Hollywood Reporter, “I went to rehab for being 29 and partying too much and not having a lot of boundaries and to clear my head and try to get some idea of who I wanted to be,” “It was more a ‘let me get myself straight,’ before it became a rite of passage.”
Affleck tied knots with Jennifer Garner, his Daredevil co-star, in 2004. A source told that Garner put an end to Affleck’s wild partying tendencies and helped him simmer down.
Friends noted a major shift in the actor when the two began dating, observing that Affleck was unlike previous girls he had dated. He calmed down under Garner’s good influence, which he said “lasted for a long time” — until the couple separated up in June 2015.
In a January 2017 interview with The Guardian, Affleck remarked, “I think becoming a father makes you see the world differently and it’s good,” reflecting on his previous mistakes and his 3 kids with Garner: Sam, 5, Seraphina, 8, and Violet, 11.
He admitted that he has always had a strong sense of values and the path he wanted to go in. He added then when he got famous, it completely turned him around, and he swung around for several years. “When you’re a young man in your 20s, part of that is making mistakes and learning from them. I just made those in front of everybody, rather than privately.” he further added.
In his announcement, Affleck cited his family, particularly his 3 daughters, as the driving force for his decision to get therapy.
He wrote on Facebook that he had recently completed rehab for alcoholism, which is something he has struggled with in the past and will continue to do so in the future. He wrote that he wanted to enjoy every moment of his life and be the best father he can be. He had further added that he wants his children to understand that requesting help when you need it is not a sign of weakness and that it may be a source of strength for anyone who needs support but is scared to ask for it.
“I’m fortunate to have the affection of my friends and family, particularly Jen, my co-parent, who has supported and cared for our children as I’ve done the work I set out to do,” he stated. “This was the first of many steps toward a successful recovery.”
It was known from a source that it was something Ben did for himself and his family. To always put your family first. Ben had battled alcoholism for years, and it’s a battle that millions of citizens face every day. He has very little to hide, and he wanted his children to know that he tried his hardest to be a better father. That is why he made the announcement himself.
“He’s finished his therapy and is in good spirits,” the source adds.
Ben Affleck wore a deeper blue blazer with a pale blue shirt and tan slacks as he wandered the streets of Los Angeles.
It seems that Affleck had also spent Christmas in Malibu’s Passages. According to Radar Online, the actor booked himself into the renowned institution, committed to fighting for his family’s sobriety. “Ben had a relapse… Jen and Casey are willing to try anything, regardless of how controversial the methods are,” according to a source close to the pair. The facility’s techniques are holistic and do not include a 12-step program. They also allow individuals to see their families and jobs if necessary. “Ben isn’t a prisoner,” the source added, “and he’s completely dedicated to seeing his children and keeping his professional commitments outside the facility.” The actor’s “check-out” date, as well as the facility he visited, were never revealed. He was, however, permitted to go to spend Christmas with his family, including his children and Garner.
Jennifer Garner, Affleck’s ex, drove him to a clinic in the Los Angeles region on Wednesday, August 22.
“Garner was really distraught,” an observer told, “but she decided to take the situation into her own hands.” Garner was plainly agitated. “She appeared to be in a state of distress.”
A second source told that the star actor has “worked extremely hard to remain clean” since his last rehab stint, however, there are worries that he may be relapsing.
“Jen [Garner] is happy with the progress he’s made, but a few of his pals were concerned that he might be regressing and heading down a dangerous path,” the person said.
“For his kids, Jen, and his career, Ben wants to do anything to get sober.”
Affleck “understands the perils of what he’ll lose in living if he will not stick to the plan and devote himself to these major adjustments,” according to the source.
Affleck kept his latest time in rehab a secret, despite hints to the actor’s problems surfaced in the early days of 2017, when the father of 3 was spotted outside in Los Angeles with a blonde lady.
Due to the fact that they shared a property, some thought that Affleck had walked on from Garner. However, a source revealed at the time that the lady was Elizabeth Weaver, a sobriety coach with who he had been focusing to make “sure he stays on the right path.”
“Ben has spent a good amount of time with her in recent weeks to kick his alcohol addiction,” the person claimed. It was further was taking his sobriety extremely seriously, and he understands that he must do so for the sake of his children and that he is willing to go to any length for his children, and he hopes that this will improve his relationship with Jen.
Despite the fact that Affleck was no longer working with Weaver, a source at that time told that he was clean at the 2017 Academy Awards while cheering on his younger brother, Casey, who won Best Actor and had a male sober buddy by his side the entire night.
Jennifer Garner was seen with Ben Affleck, who donned a grey jacket over a blue sweatshirt and wore a blue baseball hat with black sweat pants and a gray hoodie
Those who suffer from addiction and rehabilitation understand that remaining sober is a long-term process. Affleck is the dad of Garner’s three children, and the two have maintained their commitment to being exemplary co-parents. In August of 2018, the Argo star’s ex-wife brought him to the Canyon at Peace Park for treatment. “Garner was very emotional but decided to take the situation into her own hands,” one eyewitness recalls the incident. Garner was plainly agitated. “She looked distraught. Jen Garner is proud of the strides he’s made, but some of his friends were worried he might be taking some steps backward and could be on a slippery slope,” the source further added. For the kids, Jen, and his career, Ben wants nothing more than to get sober.” “It was devastating for her to have to stage an intervention in the middle of the afternoon, pretty much in public,” a person close to Garner said. But this was a crisis situation.” According to Us Weekly, she would always back him up. Unfortunately, his and Garner’s divorce would be finalized just weeks later, on October 4, 2018, the day he finished treatment, according to USA Today.
According to Us Weekly, the actor sent a note on Instagram letting followers know what he was thinking as he joined The Canyon of Peace Park treatment center in Malibu. He had posted that winning the battle against any addiction is a lifetime and arduous battle. As a result, there is no such thing as being in or out of treatment. It’ll take up all of your time. He has further written that he was fighting for his family and himself. He had also remarked that many others had contacted him on social media to share their personal stories of addiction. He expressed gratitude to those individuals. He wrote that their courage inspired him and helped him in ways he never imagined were possible. It was comforting to know that he was not alone. On October 4, 2018, he finished the 40-day program.
Affleck told Today presenter Hoda Kotb that he does not mind discussing alcoholism and that he was (and still is) an alcoholic. “It’s part of my life. It’s something I have to deal with on a regular basis. It doesn’t have to sort of subsume my whole identity and be everything, but it is something that you know you have to work at. I feel like I’ve had a problem that I’d like to solve, and I’m proud of that… it’s about yourself, your life, your family, and you know people — we encounter these kinds of hurdles and we have to deal with them,” he said, as written in Us Weekly.
At a Halloween party, though, it seemed that Affleck had reverted to his former ways. As he approached Garner’s home, he spoke to a freelance paparazzi about the event. “It happens, you know. It’s a slip, but I’m not going to let it derail me,” he told them in regards to his recurrence. As he has stated, and as anyone who has dealt with it or known someone who knows it all too well, it is a never-ending process. Something he said in the 2018 Instagram post seemed to encapsulate all that the actor has gone through and will go through until the end of his days. “As I’ve had to remind myself, if you have a problem, getting help is a sign of courage, not weakness or failure.”
At a movie premiere, Ben Affleck looked dashing in a deep maroon suit with a black tie.
When Us Weekly spoke with the actor, he said that the New Year would bring the best in him. As he stood ready to confront 2020, Affleck was thinking about the “New Year, New You” feeling that chimes in each new year. “Being healthy” was Affleck’s primary motivator for the New Year, according to a person close to him. “He works out for two hours every day,” a source had informed. He’s also “eating right and exercising,” according to reports.
In a famous scene The Way Back, Ben Affleck, who was dressed in a green and black checkered flannel, became emotional.
In early March, Affleck returned to the limelight in a new picture. The Way Back depicted an alcoholic previous high school basketball player who is hired as the senior trainer when the present team’s leader suffers a cardiac event. As he had already remarked, he was not ashamed to talk about alcoholism since it is all worth it if he can help just one person. This film’s director reported had battled his own problems and related with individuals in need of assistance.
