Pete Davidson is a well-known comedian who has his own Netflix comedy specials. He is also a part of the cast of Saturday Night Live (SNL), a program whose cast is known to have struggled with drug addiction over the years.

At the beginning of Saturday Night Live, nearly every member of the cast and crew had a cocaine problem. Although the problem has reduced over the years, drug use is still pervasive on Saturday Night Live and in the entertainment and media business as a whole.

Pete Davidson is not unfamiliar with these difficulties. All through the past few years of his life, he has fought with both mental health and drug addiction and has not been embarrassed to make this information public.

By discussing his troubles in public, he has certainly helped a great number of people in similar circumstances to receive the necessary assistance.

Let’s delve deeply into Pete Davidson’s life and how his tale came into focus. In addition, let’s examine how his journey can benefit others and what you need to do if you are battling mental health and addiction struggles alone.

Mental health disorders can be difficult to identify for many people. Unless you have been diagnosed by a healthcare practitioner like a psychologist, you may not know for sure that you’re battling with anything. For some, mental health difficulties develop when life starts to get worse. In 2018, Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson called off their engagement and ended their relationship. This may have exacerbated Davidson’s anxiety, depression, and other mental health issues, prompting him to realize he needed assistance.

For some, a traumatic experience, job loss, breakup, or other adversity may trigger the manifestation of a mental health problem. Anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, PTSD, and other mental illnesses may be more difficult to deal with during stressful times if they are not properly treated.

As per the data available and the information disclosed by Pete Davidson himself through social media and TV interviews, Pete Davidson has suffered from Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) and PTSD due to childhood trauma. He has had other mental health issues like depression, fear of abandonment, anger management, and anxiety issues.

Multiple studies have linked addiction and mental health, as having a mental health issue is one of the factors that can cause an addiction. A person with a diagnosed or undiagnosed mental health issue may have difficulty coping in a healthy manner. This could be because they lack the abilities or are accustomed to unhealthy coping mechanisms.

Some resort to alcohol or drugs as a means of coping with their difficulties rather than seeking assistance. This can rapidly and easily grow into a dependency or addiction that only causes additional troubles in the long run.

As mental health is typically the underlying cause of addiction, many treatment institutions address it prior to addressing addiction. Getting to the core of the reason for addiction can contribute to making recovery from addiction much easier, as individuals will learn healthier coping techniques, trigger prevention, and so much more.

At age 17 or 18, Davidson was afflicted with Crohn’s disease, for which he underwent intravenous biologic therapy and took marijuana for medical reasons like pain and later for recreational purposes. During an interview about drug abuse and drug addiction on comedian Marc Maron’s podcast, Davidson made clear that the sole drug he used was marijuana, and that although he has now cut back on it significantly, the personal and psychological problems he initially attributed to his everyday marijuana use were clearly caused by his newly diagnosed BPD, for which he has since received treatment.

On December 3, 2018, Davidson made a personal Instagram post in which he indicated suicidal thoughts, before deactivating and deleting his account entirely. In reaction to social media posts from followers and ex-girlfriend Ariana Grande, the New York Police Department performed a health check on Davidson.

At the time, Davidson was in the Saturday Night Live studio prepping for the final episode of the year prior to the show’s holiday break. On January 19, 2019, during the Weekend Update portion of the first episode after the holiday hiatus, Davidson and John Mulaney, former SNL writer and comedian, made funny references to the Instagram post.

Pete Davidson initially disclosed his diagnosis of borderline personality disorder (BPD) during an interview with Marc Maron. Since then, Pete has frequently commented on what it is like to live with BPD.

At age 17 or 18, Davidson was treated for his Crohn’s disease, for which he got intravenous biologic therapy and took marijuana for medical reasons and later for recreational purposes.

Fear of being rejected or abandoned is one of BPD’s nine hallmark symptoms. Those with BPD may purposefully or accidentally be deceptive and manipulative to achieve their aims.

Pete was just seven years old when his father, a New York firefighter, perished in the 9/11 attacks. Intense childhood trauma frequently contributes to the development of personality disorders in adulthood. Pete has stated in therapy that the loss of his father at a young age has caused him to develop a phobia of abandonment.

Trust issues are especially widespread among BPD patients. In 2017, when speaking with Marc Maron, Pete emphasized the importance of trust to him. One day he was with his father, and the next day he was not there. Sometimes he would struggle when his mother would say that she was leaving. He further mentioned that w When people say they are going and then returning back, he becomes extremely anxious, as if they won’t return.

Pete has indicated that he has concurrent struggles with depression. BPD is frequently accompanied by symptoms and diagnoses of severe depression. An important distinction between a mood spectrum disorder and a personality disorder is that persons who suffer from a personality disorder have persistent and regular long-term problems with behavior patterns.

Mood illnesses, including bipolar disorder, tend to emerge in bouts. With a personality disorder, it can be difficult to discern which aspects of a person’s actions, views, and statements are the consequence of their disorder and which are their own.

Marsha Linehan, a specialist in BPD, devised dialectical behavior therapy (DBT). DBT is regarded as the benchmark for the treatment of BPD.

This type of therapy concentrates on teaching skills that can be utilized in everyday life. Typical areas of emphasis include:

  • Mindfulness
  • Emotional management
  • Stress tolerance and prevention
  • Personal relationships.

Pete has reported difficulty implementing DBT techniques. He did note that he has discovered some of the strategies to be effective in times of crisis when he was able to apply them.

Borderline rage, often known as uncontrollable anger, is a prominent indicator that a person may be coping with BPD. There are suggestions that borderline disorder is diagnosed far more frequently in women than in men since the majority of men with the condition may be jailed for performing violent acts. Women with  BPD are known to behave violently. Keeping this in mind, women with BPD are frequently more prone to self-harm and to direct their aggression and emotions of self-loathing inward rather than outward. As with other diseases, this varies greatly across individuals.

Although Pete Davidson has been associated with heroin and cocaine abuse, he has neither confirmed it nor rejected these allegations.

Pete Davidson has recounted having “rage blackouts,” which he first attributed to his marijuana use. He has been cited as saying that he began experiencing mental breakdowns that made him want to panic. Rage. And then forget what transpired thereafter.

Later, he would recall it in images, as if recalling it in a fog. He wouldn’t realize what occurred until he broke something or “came to.” In addition, he stated that he suspected marijuana was the cause. He never used any other medicines. He also attended marijuana therapy.

Pete Davidson has discussed his rehab treatment on multiple occasions.

While some celebrities are reluctant to discuss their struggles behind closed doors, Davidson has been fairly candid with his fans about some of the challenges he faces in private in 2022. He is reported to be part of rehab programs off and on in 2022.

For example, he typically does not avoid mentioning his past substance usage. In 2017, he disclosed that he had been receiving treatment for drug abuse for many years and was now clean.

During a Sunday night stand-up performance at Carolines on Broadway in New York City, the comedian claimed he sought professional help at the Sierra Tucson treatment center in Arizona.

While he did not disclose the cause of his stay, he reportedly stated that he spent his days in the facility practicing his comedy.

As per the outlet, Davidson stated that he used the alias “Howard” while in rehabilitation and laughed about hanging out in the “butt hut,” where patients smoked cigarettes.

According to their website, the Sierra Tucson facility treats individuals with substance misuse, trauma-related concerns, mood and anxiety disorders, eating disorders, and chronic pain.

Davidson has been honest about his mental health difficulties for quite some time. In 2017, the comedian disclosed that after years of suffering anxiety and depression, he had been diagnosed with a borderline personality disorder. Additionally, he sought treatment in 2016.

Davidson claimed in an interview with Charlamagne Tha God that his recent stay in treatment has been focused on improving his mental health. He has no qualms about letting others know that rehab is an integral component of his strategy for coping with his mental challenges.

He once stated in an interview that he constantly required medication adjustments. Due to the circumstances of my youth, he disclosed that he had a mental disorder that fell somewhere between bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder. As a result, he needed periodic adjustments. He stated that he does not consider rehab to be a major issue. He considers it to be a very robust and powerful object.

During a December “Weekend Update” skit on SNL, he appeared to indicate that he would be seeking therapy again.

He once said that he would be taking a “holiday.” He added that it was a type of holiday where insurance covers a portion of the cost, your phone and shoelaces are confiscated, and you have roommates, but it still costs approximately $100,000.

Pete Davidson has been extremely candid about his several rehab visits over the previous several years. It’s not something he prefers to keep private, most likely because he understands that revealing his problems with a broad audience could potentially aid those battling with similar concerns.

Once he stated that he had his medications adjusted frequently. He had a combination of bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, and mental health issues arising from his eventful childhood, so he had to get his meds readjusted frequently and go to rehab more often for it. He doesn’t consider rehab to be a big issue. He believes it to be a very lively, powerful, and potent experience.

His candor about rehab helps to reduce the stigma associated with it. Many addicts prefer not to enter treatment because they fear being judged or labeled as insane for their mental health difficulties and addiction. By continuing to discuss rehab as a typical experience that some individuals must face, it becomes simpler for others to attend without experiencing this dread. Pete Davidson and other celebrities make this feasible, but non-celebrities should also continue to discuss rehab in this manner every day.

It is a frequent misconception that high-end residential treatment or inpatient rehab is solely used to treat addiction, but it is also utilized to treat other difficulties. For instance, if you are dealing and struggling with your mental health and cannot get it under regulation on your own, there are specific mental health facilities ready to help.

In addition, the majority of upscale and luxury addiction rehabilitation facilities also treat mental health concerns. If you, like Pete Davidson, are admitted with both mental health and addiction difficulties, they will prioritize helping you overcome your addiction while managing the underlying issues. This frequently includes medicine, therapy, and other treatments.
