Jordan Peterson is a world-renowned clinical psychologist, public speaker, author, and social commentator. Belonging to Canada, professor Peterson has been known for the multiple controversies related to his comments on specific cultural, social, and political issues. As the author of several books and international publications, he has generated an enviable net worth throughout his career.
Jorden B Peterson was born in Alberta, Canada, in 1962. His father was a teacher, and his mother was a librarian at a regional college. As he grew up in a literary household, Peterson enjoyed reading several famous authors, such as Aldous Huxley and George Orwell, from an early age. He completed his high school at Fairview High School in 1979 and moved to Grande Prairie Regional College to pursue a degree in English literature and political science. Jorden later entered the University of Alberta, where he ended up with another degree in political science.
To develop a sound understanding of some thematic events that took place before his birth and the underlying factors triggering them, Jorden Peterson traveled to Europe. During this quest, he discovered and studied the psychological origins of the Cold War and European totalitarianism in the 20th century. This quest sparked his interest in psychology and forced him to return to the University of Alberta to study the subject in detail. Jorden received a B.A. degree in psychology in 1984, after which he went to McGill University in Montreal to begin his Ph.D.
Jordan Peterson began teaching psychology as an associate professor at Harvard University in 1993. He conducted a great part of his research during this tenure until 1998, when he returned to the University of Toronto to work as a full-time professor. As a psychologist, Peterson mainly focused on the psychology of ideological and religious beliefs. Apart from teaching, he also offers psychological assistance and conducts clinical sessions to help needy individuals. Currently, he is serving as a faculty member in the psychology department at a Toronto-based university.
Jordan B Peterson is an articulate and courageous icon of free speech, personal responsibility, individual liberty, free markets, and the Judeo-Christian values underpinning Western Civilization. He burst onto the public scene a few decades ago with extensive and in-depth critiques of intolerance, identity politics, moral relativism, and political correctness. Peterson’s specialist areas of research and study include psychopharmacology, creative psychology, political and ideological psychology, industrial and organizational psychology, personality and social psychology, and more. He has authored more than a hundred scholarly papers with over 8000 citations.
In terms of his works, Peterson has published multiple books, one of which became an international bestseller and was translated into over 45 different languages. He also owns his YouTube channel, with more than four million current subscribers. Jordan has also:
According to sources, the net worth of Jordan Peterson is around $8 million. In 2019, he claimed to be earning approximately $80,000 per month through his Patreon account. This was in addition to the $200,000 coming from his clinical practice. He also receives royalties from his published books and earnings from his YouTube channel.
Jordan Peterson has the following three books to his name:
12 Rules For Life: An Antidote to Chaos, in which he intermixes the truths related to ancient traditions with the cutting-edge revelations of the latest scientific research. The book has sold more than 5 million copies across the world so far.
Beyond Order: Twelve More Rules for Life, which is a long-awaited sequel to his first book. In this book, Peterson explains how an excess of chaos and order can lead to destructive patterns in life. He then proposes to balance these principles of reality, i.e., chaos and order to find meaning in life.
Maps Of Meaning: The Architecture of Belief, in which Jordan explores why people from different eras and cultures formulate stories and myths with similar structures. He then describes what these uncanny similarities tell us about morality, the mind, and the structure of the world.
Born on June 12, 1962, Jordan Peterson is currently 60 years old.
In the middle of all the fame and limelight, Jordan Peterson suddenly disappeared from the public eye in the summer of 2019. He later made an entrance two years later, in early 2020, when the doctors had reportedly placed him in a nine-day-long coma to protect him from the dangerous withdrawal effects of benzodiazepine addiction. The coma kept him unconscious as the body slowly moved through the terrible side effects of withdrawal. After spending weeks in intensive care, Jordan could not write or speak for years and had to take anti-seizure medicine to stabilize himself.
Jordan Peterson has been involved in multiple controversies over time. Some of his recent controversies are outlined below:
In 2016, Peterson criticized the Act approved by the Parliament of Canada to make amendments to the Canadian Human Rights Act and the Criminal Code to minimize gender identity and expression discrimination.
He also expressed his thoughts on Twitter about Yumi Nu, a curvy plus-sized model, stating how he did not find her beautiful, and he could not be convinced otherwise by the authoritarian tolerance.
Jordan also expressed his two cents on the #MeToo movement, questioning why women were coming forward now about events that happened to them decades ago. This sparked a worldwide controversy in all feminist groups. Many even started various campaigns to cancel his shows and conferences.
